            My Clinical Approach

I come from a systems approach, which is what makes Marriage and Family Therapists different from psychologists, social workers, and other types of counselors. Coming from a systems perspective means that I use my clients' "systems" (family dynamics, interpersonal relationships, environmental stressors, etc.) as the lens through which to understand their challenges. By seeing the individual's difficulties in terms of their actions, reactions and interactions, their struggles can be understood as natural responses to difficult situations instead of as personal internal flaws held by that individual. This gives the individual the power, the tools and the confidence to change the situations in their lives.

The following is a list of the specific systemic therapeutic approaches I use in my practice. Because each client is different, I like to get to know you and your struggles before selecting a particular approach, so I can choose the best method for you and your situation. If you have any questions about the approaches I use, please ask.

            Goals

Getting a clear idea of what you'd like to achieve in therapy is very important to your success. Establishing a goal or goals will help guide therapy, will help us stay focused on your desired outcome, and will help us know when the therapeutic process is done.

While most people that visit a competent therapist find relief, please remember that there are no guarantees. Success depends on the quality of the relationship with the therapist, what goes on in the life the client between therapy sessions, the techniques and methods used by the therapist, as well as other factors.

            Length of Sessions & Therapy

Sessions are usually 50 minutes long and are scheduled on a weekly basis. Occasionally we may decide that 75 minute or bi-weekly sessions would be necessary or appropriate. As therapy gets going, we'll decide together which arrangement best fits your needs.

Treatment usually lasts between 12 and 16 weeks, and it is often the case that people begin feeling better after the first couple of sessions.

            Cost & Payment Options

I provide counseling on a fee-for-service basis. My fees are based on a sliding scale that depend on your monthly income. I accept cash, check, and credit cards as methods of payment.

If you choose to pay by credit card, please pay for the session before you attend. Online credit card payment can be made by going to the "Pay Online" webpage of Dr. Sean Davis's website. Then scroll down to the section, "Pay Natalie Online."

If you choose to pay cash or check, please bring it to the session. Checks should be made out to Sean Davis, PhD.
